R1 CONCEPTS / BRAKE GUIDE
Your drive.
Your brakes.
Choose a setup that fits your commute, weekend plans, and workload.

Your weekday commute, a weekend autocross, and a truck loaded for a trip ask different things from the braking system. The right setup starts with how you use your vehicle and what matters most to you: an OE-style feel, less visible brake dust, response at higher temperatures, or performance under load.
Use this guide to compare R1 Concepts brake pad options, then choose a compatible rotor design. Always confirm your vehicle’s year, make, model, and brake package before ordering.

Daily Driving: City Stops and Highway Miles
Most drivers do a mix of city and highway driving. Both R1 OPTIMUM OEp and R1 CERAMIC pads are intended for daily use in passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Choose between them around the characteristics you want from your brakes.

Daily driving with an OE-style formulation

Daily driving with low dust and low noise
R1 OPTIMUM OEp Series Brake Pads use original-equipment formulation materials to deliver vehicle-appropriate friction performance. They are designed for consistent pedal feel, long wear, low noise, and very low dust. This is a useful starting point if you want familiar, OE-style braking behavior.
R1 CERAMIC Series Brake Pads use a ceramic formulation designed for quiet, smooth daily operation and low dust. Consider them when cleaner-looking wheels and everyday comfort are high on your list.
For a mixed commute, compare the vehicle-specific options and decide which balance of feel, dust, and noise best fits your priorities.
Performance Street Driving and Light Track Use
R1 PERFORMANCE Sport Series Brake Pads use a high-friction formulation designed to provide predictable response at higher temperatures. R1 lists spirited street driving, light track use, and autocross among their intended applications.
They are an option when your driving demands more than routine commuting. Match the pads with rotors that fit your vehicle and intended use. For track use beyond occasional light sessions, contact R1 to discuss the demands of your vehicle and event.
Towing and Off-Road Driving
Towing, heavier loads, and larger tires change what you need from your brakes. R1 PERFORMANCE Off-Road/Tow Series Brake Pads are designed for lifted trucks and SUVs with bigger tires and wheels, with intended uses that include daily driving, off-roading, and towing or hauling.
Their premium semi-metallic formulation is designed for predictable response at higher temperatures and consistent braking under heavy loads. Choose around the work your vehicle actually does, including its loaded use, and confirm the correct application in the catalog.
A Note for European Daily Drivers
R1 CERAMIC European Series Brake Pads use a premium ceramic formulation for European applications. They are intended for daily driving, with low dust, low noise, fade resistance, and stable friction performance across a wide temperature range.
They give European owners a vehicle-specific option when quieter operation and cleaner-looking wheels are priorities. Check your exact application, brake package, and any wear-sensor requirements when choosing parts.
Choose Your Rotor Design
Choose a rotor design around your vehicle, intended use, and preferred features. Compare the available blank, slotted, and drilled-and-slotted options, then pair your chosen design with pads that fit your driving needs and application.

Smooth face; no drilled holes or slots

Diamond slots without drilled holes

Cross-drilled holes and diamond slots
Blank: R1 GEO-Carbon Blank Brake Rotors have a smooth braking face and a coating designed to protect against corrosion. They offer an OE-style rotor design without drilled holes or slots.
Slotted: R1 eLINE Black Series Slotted Brake Rotors use diamond slots with a black zinc coating. This is the slotted option shown above, with no cross-drilled holes.
Drilled and slotted: R1 eLINE Silver Series Drilled & Slotted Brake Rotors combine cross-drilled holes and diamond slots with a zinc-plated finish. Their double-disc-ground braking surfaces support even pad bed-in and smooth operation.
On coated rotors, the coating on the pad-contact surface wears away during initial bed-in. The rotor’s appearance will change in that area as the pads establish their contact surface.
Before You Choose
Does low dust mean dust-free?
No. All brake pads produce some dust. Ceramic formulations are generally considered low dust, and their lighter-colored particles can be less visible on wheels. More aggressive pad formulations can involve different noise and dust tradeoffs.
Will every R1 option fit my vehicle?
Availability varies by application. Enter your year, make, and model in R1’s vehicle selector, then confirm any brake-package or fitment notes. The products pictured here illustrate the series and rotor patterns; the exact parts and kit contents depend on your vehicle.
Do new pads and rotors need a break-in?
Yes. Follow the instructions supplied with your parts and R1’s brake pad and rotor break-in procedure. Proper bed-in helps establish the friction-material transfer layer between the pads and rotors.
