Tesla Plaid Big Brake Kit: 430mm Eight Piston on 1,000 HP

A 2026 Tesla Model S Plaid came into the shop for a Tesla Plaid big brake kit, and it arrived with numbers that make the job obvious. A thousand horsepower, a thousand pound feet of torque, three electric motors and all wheel drive. Rex summed the car up as a rocket ship, which it is. The part nobody talks about is that all of that has to come back down again, and the factory brakes were never specified for an owner who actually uses it.

A Thousand Horsepower Is the Easy Part

Instant torque is the headline with these cars, and it is genuinely startling the first time. The problem is that instant power without instant braking is only half a car. If you are going to use the performance, the stopping side has to be built to match, and on a Plaid that means going well past what the factory fitted.

Front: 380mm Single Cast to 430mm Two-Piece

The stock front is a 380mm single cast rotor. That became a 430mm two-piece on an eight piston caliper. This is the biggest kit we offer on any vehicle platform, not just Teslas, and the difference is obvious the moment the wheel comes off. Fifty millimetres of extra diameter is a substantial jump in braking power before you account for anything else the design does.

Why Two-Piece and Vented Matters Here

The two-piece construction and the directional vanes in the rotor are doing the quiet work. Heat is what kills brake performance at speed, and a heavy, very fast car generates a lot of it. A two-piece rotor manages expansion better and the vane design pulls heat out between applications, which is what keeps the pedal consistent instead of going long after a few hard stops.

The Rear Has to Respect the Parking Brake

The rear went to a 398mm six piston, which is the largest we offer for electronic parking brake setups. That constraint matters on a Tesla, because the electronic parking brake is the park position. There is no mechanical park pawl to fall back on, so retaining it is not optional. Every kit we build is designed around the factory parking brake, whether that is a disc and drum arrangement, a cable, or an electronic unit like this one.

Thirty Two Colours, and This One Went Yellow

The factory red calipers suited the car, and the owner could reasonably have left them. He wanted something more his own, so this big brake kit went out in fluorescent yellow, one of thirty two painted and anodized finishes. Against the body colour it reads as a deliberate choice rather than an afterthought, which is the point.

How It Feels After Bedding In

Once the kit was bedded in, Rex took it out again. His read was that the car still does the rocket ship thing, but now the braking matches it. You barely have to lean on the pedal before the car responds. On a vehicle that can reach speed this quickly, a short and predictable pedal is the difference between confident and nervous.
