The factory brakes on a Porsche Panamera are already capable, but there is always room to improve performance, heat management, and appearance.
This 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo arrived at the R1 Concepts shop for a serious brake upgrade. The goal was to replace the factory setup with a larger R1 Concepts big brake kit that would deliver a stronger presence behind the wheels and braking performance suited to the vehicle.
Once the wheels were removed, we inspected the Panamera’s original front brake system.
The factory setup featured:
That is a substantial braking system for a performance luxury vehicle. However, the owner wanted an upgrade that would provide even more visual impact and additional braking capability.
For this build, the factory brakes were replaced with a larger R1 Concepts setup featuring:
The increase from six-piston to eight-piston calipers provides a larger and more aggressive brake configuration. The 405 mm rotors also offer additional size and thermal capacity compared with the original 390 mm rotors.
Together, the larger calipers and rotors create a brake system designed to complement the Panamera’s size, power, and performance-focused character.
A big brake kit can offer several advantages for performance vehicles.
Larger brake rotors have more surface area and mass to help absorb and manage heat. This can be valuable during repeated braking, spirited driving, or other demanding conditions.
A properly matched caliper, rotor, and brake pad combination can provide a more confident and responsive pedal feel.
Performance is only part of the appeal. The eight-piston calipers and 405 mm rotors fill the Panamera’s wheel wells much more effectively than the factory setup.
The upgraded brakes look especially sharp behind the black wheels, giving the vehicle a more purposeful and performance-oriented appearance.
The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo combines luxury, practicality, and serious performance. A larger brake system helps create a more balanced package by giving the braking hardware a presence that matches the vehicle’s power and styling.
After installation, the difference was immediately noticeable.
The larger calipers and rotors added much more visual presence behind the wheels. During the post-installation drive, the braking response felt strong, controlled, and confidence-inspiring.
The finished setup does more than make the Panamera stand out. It gives the vehicle a brake system that looks and performs like a true performance upgrade.
