Car Maintenance Checklist

Here are a couple of things to look out for when you do a routine check-up for your car.

  • Engine Oil and Filter:
This should be checked after every fuel fill-up and while the engine is off.  Recommended oil changes are every 3 months or 3000 miles

  • Fuel Filter:
Replace if it is contaminated with water or if there is too much debris restricting fuel flow.  Recommended to be replaced every 2 years or 24000 miles

  • Transmission Fluid:
Check the fluid level when the engine is running and while in the park or neutral.  Recommended to be changed every 2 years or 24000 miles

  • Power Steering Fluid:
Check the engine off using either “Full Cold” or “Full Hot” indicator lines on the dipstick.  Recommended to be changed every 2 years or 24000 fluid with miles

  • Brake Fluid:
Check when the engine is off or running.  If you have to top off frequently, check brake linings and check for leaks.  Recommended to be changed every 2 years or  24000 miles

These are only a couple of simple checkups you can do yourself once in a while to keep your car in top running condition.  It is always better to catch even a minor problem before it becomes major and could cost you a large amount of money to get fixed or replaced.
