No Formula DRIFT. No problem.
Don’t get us wrong, we certainly missed Formula DRIFT, as it’s the perfect way to celebrate the annual Drift Atlanta weekend races as part of the Global Time Attack series. But even without this event staple and minus any fans packing the grandstands, the GTA at Road Atlanta, held Fourth of July weekend, was still one for the memory books. Engines were revved, records were broken and the difference between first place and third place was only a matter of a few seconds. In a GTA Atlanta unlike any other in history, the action was far from dull. Thirty-five cars participated in their respective categories from July 3-4, raring for a top finish. In case you didn’t tune in for any of the live stream, we’ll recap some of the action you missed here.
A GTA Atlanta for the Ages
Like we said in the opening, the difference between first and third place in many classes was only a matter of seconds, including the Enthusiast class, which we’ll get to in a little bit.
One of the highlights from the event was driver Jack Ding and his Toyota Supra TA90, which snapped the Street class record with a 1:27.923 time. Congratulations are also in order for Eric Fleming, as he broke the Limited class record behind the wheel of his Chevy Corvette Z06 with a time of 1:25.868.
While this year’s GTA Atlanta was a little bit different, it was still a great time with some fun, exciting racing action. And while we certainly hope to see fans return to the stands next year and the return of the Formula DRIFT event after this one-year hiatus, one thing that’s constant with GTA Atlanta is the quality of the racing that takes place. We know that’s not going to change. Until next year!
