What do you get when you combine more than 70 cars, inclement weather and The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington?
The answer: One exciting 2020 Global Time Attack race.
Yes, a little bit of rain wasn’t about to pump the brakes on the first-annual Global Time Attack, which also happened to be the first event of 2020. In fact, wet and muddy track conditions just made the two-day racing event all the more fun to drive in and all the more enjoyable to watch. And it wasn’t about to douse the competitive flames of the 38 drivers that raced more than 70 cars, vying for the fastest overall track record at Ridge Motorsports Park. The event was hosted by Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and Global Time Attack, and we were proud to see numerous drivers racing with brakes from R1 Concepts. Here’s a closer look at how these drivers performed and how our brakes stood up in the varying weather conditions:
Meet the Drivers
Vincent Del Campo of Douxwork Racing
Vehicle: Honda Civic CX
Brakes: R1 Carbon GEOMET Slotted Only Rotors
Racing in the street class, Del Campo placed eighth out of 18 drivers, yet raced the fastest out of all FWD vehicles with a 1:52:229 overall time at The Ridge. In his first session, he tested OEM brake rotors, then upgraded to our R1 Carbon GEOMET Slotted Only Rotors, which performed flawlessly as he took to the track. The rotors particularly stood out in late braking corners.
Nathan Hansen of Hansen Racing
Vehicle: Honda Civic VX
Brakes: R1 Caron GEOMET Slotted Only Rotors
Hansen posted the second-fastest FWD time, clocking in at a 2:03.254 overall time. The rotors performed well in both wet and dry track conditions, making for good all-around driving.
Mikel Anderson (SCCA Time Trial Driver)
Vehicle: Lexus IS350
Brakes: R1 Carbon GEOMET Drilled Rotors
A track enthusiast, Mikel isn’t exactly easy on the vehicles he drives. And that’s how you know what he’s racing – or the components that are helping him achieve his times – are quality made. Anderson gave our R1 Carbon GEOMET Drilled Rotors a great workout at the Global Time Attack event, racing more than 20 laps without issue and maintaining reliable, exceptional performance throughout.
With how much fun the first Global Time Attack at The Ridge Motorsports Park was, you can bet that we’ll be back for the second running of it next year. Congratulations to all the drivers that took part in this year’s event and a special shout-out to the drivers that pushed our rotors to the max on the track. We’ll see you out at The Ridge again next year!
