R1 Concepts Inc. was founded in 2002 by a group of car enthusiasts with the desire for more power. What kind of power? Well, at first, it really didn’t matter. We did the normal upgrades: intake, exhaust, turbo, etc. However, we always noticed the same problem. The more power we put into the car, the more often we had to replace the brakes, mainly the rotors because they were quick to warp. The rotors would heat up and then warp after intense runs or aggressive on-road driving.

We were aware that there were cross-drilled and slotted rotors available to solve our problem, but cost was a huge issue. Back then, a set of performance rotors could easily cost up to $400-$500. We were poor college students with part-time jobs. How could we have afforded that?!! Well, since three of our group members worked in a factory that operated and programmed CNC machines, we decided to make our own set of performance rotors. We pulled the rotors off the car, resurfaced then programmed it using CAD/CAM software. Needless to say, our boss wasn’t too happy after we had broken $1500 worth of tools and three hours of machine time. We had made our very first set of cross-drilled and slotted rotors and it was time to put these rotors to the test.

Before the first test run, we installed the rotors with ceramic brake pads. We had the pads smoking after the first run with the temperature reading showing about 325º. This was a huge break-through since the regular temperature reading on our rotors was around 415º. Not even after 30 seconds, the second temperature reading was at 255º. Then about 4 minutes later, the temperature reading was 180º. Imagine the look on our faces. The cooling power of these new rotors was insane! Not only were we amazed at the cooling power, but the car also stopped much faster.

Soon after we started to machine the rotors for all of the group members. The word got out that we were machining resurfaced brake rotors and we started getting a larger demand for the product everyday. The foundation of our company began to build through the word of mouth. People were talking about us on the internet even before we had a company name! Needless to say, we realized the potential and entered the market.

It’s been six years since our first test run and we are now one of the largest rotor distributors on the internet and in California. We are no longer machining old resurfaced rotors; instead we are machining brand new, high quality rotors at unbelievably low affordable prices. Besides our high quality rotors and low prices, our diamond slot design and free zinc plating sets us above our competitors. So, what are you waiting for? Check us out for yourself! As you browse our website, you’ll notice that most of our brake rotors average around $120-$180. That’s just a little over a quarter of the original price! R1 drilled and slotted rotors are a great investment for your car.
