Sports: Who is best, Kobe Bryant or Lebron James?

One of the most talked about debates in the NBA, who is the best basketball player currently in the NBA? Just about 90% percent of the time you would probably hear names of two players that are obviously connected with this question, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Some would say they would take Kobe over Lebron for clutch situations but Lebron over Kobe for leadership. In general, Kobe Bryant is a more experience and a better all around basketball player then Lebron. He also has three championship rings. However, Lebron has only been in the league for only five years compared to Kobe’s twelve and had a better first five year start then Kobe did. Well I broke down most of there career highlights so you can decide.

Lebron is a lot better than Kobe. Only reason Lebron isn’t on the best team in the league is because he is on the Cavs. Without LBJ the Cavs would be the worst team in the league. But he brought them to 2nd place to the Spurs 2 years ago. No one has single handedly carried a team as far as Lebron. The day Lebron gets traded is the day he gets known as the greatest to ever play the game. He has put up better stats than Bryant, Robertson, and Jordan. In a few years he will gain leadership and hopefully a team that is not terrible. In 10 years he will be known as the greatest to ever play the game. Kobe has always had someone to lean on. Like Shaq or Gasol. He has never needed to be a one man army like Lebron. Trade Kobe for Lebron and the Cavs would never win a game, but the Lakers would go undefeated. I live in LA and even with that bais for the home team, I know that Lebron is better than Kobe. Read the chart, Lebron has higher stats in everything that is based purely on his performance. PPG/APG/RPG. All Kobe has is copies of 3 of Shaq’s rings. Lebron has had the all time greatest start to a NBA career. Who will your children be buying harwood classic jerseys of and idolizing. Lebron.

Thats true, Lebron is putting up better stats than Kobe. Then again you must understand that he is on the East coast. When Kobe had no Shaq or Gasol he brought his team to 7th seed in the playoffs and lost first round to the Suns twice. The West was much stronger than the East during the 05-07 era, there would be no way anyone could have single handedly done much better without any help. Plus, Kobe couldn’t have done it without shaq or shaq couldn’t have done it without Kobe during the 99-02 championship era. If Kobe was in Cleveland, I cannot say if he would do better or worse because we would never know and I hate to assume things. To be honest with you, I also think Lebron is a better player than Kobe at start. If Lebron consistently puts up these high numbers for the rest of his career just like Kobe has and AT LEAST one or two Championships under his belt. Yes, he will be remembered as the greatest that ever played the game or at least the greatest forward that ever played the game. NBA players will always be remembered by Championships even if they had help.

    Steven…joking right?

Kobe puts up worse stats against the East than he does against the West. Kobe played the same Celtics last year yet lost in 6 games in one of the most lopsided 6 game series ever.

    Just a quick refresher:

Kobe lost the biggest lead after the 1st quarter (20 pts) ever in the finals. And the Lakers were at home.

Kobe and the Lakers lost game 6 by 39 points.

Lebron and his 45 win team lost game 7 in Boston in the last minute, of all the playoff teams, nobody played the Celtics better than the Cavs. No player played as good as the Cavs.

If Kobe was in Cleveland, I guarantee that we’d be worse. First off, Kobe only started to play at Lebron’s rookie level in 1999. Second, he wasn’t at Lebron’s 21-22 yr old level until his mid 20s. And finally, Kobe is not a playmaker like Lebron. The only reason the Cavs have been doing so well with some so-so talent is because Lebron elevates the level of his teammates by making plays.

So Kobe has 3 championships? Great. How many finals MVPs? What? 0…You mean Shaq got all the finals MVPs?

Sans Shaq, Kobe has 0 championships and needed Phil, Gasol, D-Fish, Odom, etc to finally get out of the 1st round. Compare that to making the finals with Larry Hughes, Sasha Pavlovic, Eric Snow, Drew Gooden as starters…so you say it’s the East…maybe it is, but Detroit was a tough draw for anyone, East or West…

Shaq did it without Kobe very soon after they left. If Shaq wasn’t in Miami, they wouldn’t have beat Detroit. In LA, yes Kobe did somethings to, but as a sidekick.

And you think that Championships determine who’s better? Bad argument. Emmett Smith has 3x more Superbowls than Barry Sanders but I don’t think you’ll find anyone who thinks Emmett is better.

When Lebron leads the Cavaliers to an NBA championship, he would have won it without another superstar player. How many teams do that? Jordan had Scottie, who’s top 50…the 80s Lakers had how many hall of famers? The Celtics of past and old, same thing…Shaq had Kobe…D-Wade had Shaq…

    Lebron has? Z…Mo Williams…Anderson Varejao

  8. Steven January 13, 2009 at 3:51 pm #

    Victor, no I am not….

Emmit Smith? I meant NBA players are remembered by Champions and I don’t really know much about Football so I can’t agree with you on that one. About Boston… what about Lebron vs Boston, lets not forget about game one 12pts, 2 for 18 shooting or was it game two, 21pts 6 for 24 shooting but great argument though. Gee, what a great debatable blog I started. Hey, don’t get me wrong, if I didn’t think Lebron was that good, I would of never compared the two. Honestly, I do think Lebron is better and is starting off allot better then Kobe did. I hope that he gets even better and stays consistent throughout his whole career. I just think its just a bit too early to say hes the best or the best ever or even better then Kobe. Wow! can’t wait for Monday the 19th game, Lakers vs Cavs, oh yeah!!!
