GHSA(Governors Highway Safety Association) states that 8 states (Calif., Conn., Del., Md., N.J., N.Y., Ore. and Wash.), D.C. and the Virgin Islands prohibit all drivers from using handheld cell phones while driving. For that reason, I started to look for a bluetooth device. There are many Bluetooth headsets sold on the market. I tried it and I didn’t like the feeling of the headset in my ear and sometimes coming loose. So I thought of looking for another alternative. I came across the Motorola T505 Bluetooth speakerphone. It describes what I was looking for, so I bought it.
I received the package in the mail. It included:
1. T505 Bluetooth in car speakerphone,
2. Visor clip,
3. Mini-USB car charger
4. User manual.
My first impression was it had a nice design and looks well built. It is a nice size, not too big at all. I had it clipped onto my visor.
I turned on the device and sync it to my phone. It was fast to link up. I tested it out by calling someone. With the echo and noise reduction technology feature, the speaker sounded loud and clear. If you tap on the call button, I can speak “call+a person’s name” and it would call them directly for me. If you hold the button down for 2 secs, it will call the last person you called. When a receiving call is coming in, it speaks the phone number that is calling.
The thing that caught me the most about this Bluetooth set than other Bluetooth devices is that it has a FM transmitter to be able to use my car speakers for volume and sound. So if the regular speaker is not loud enough, then you can tune onto a radio station the device will prompt you to go to and turn the volume as loud as you desired.
It also has another nice feature that allows any Bluetooth capability devise to play the sound on the Motorola T505. For instance, when I am at the Laundromat waiting for my clothes to be washed, I use my Bluetooth to listen to MP3, NBA games, movies, youtube from my cell phone. Since I don’t have navigation in my car, I use my Bluetooth speakerphone to get a much louder voice command sound which is a better comparison to my phone’s lower volume and at the same time still listen to music from my radio. It’s that loud.
The battery life is amazing. I make calls almost everyday on the Motorola T505 and sometimes talk for hours. My cell phone has to be charged every night but my Motorola T505 Bluetooth devise doesn’t have to get charged until 2-3 weeks later. Sometimes when I get out of my car and forget to turn off my Motorola T505 devise, it automatically shuts off after a few minutes to save energy.
There is one con characteristic I don’t like about the Motorola T505 Bluetooth . When I switch from regular speakerphone to the car stereo speakers, it will switch back to regular speakerphone after 10 minutes of non-use. It does get a little annoying to switch all the time when I am on the road for a long drive.
Overall, I was going to have a built-in Bluetooth installed in my car but would have to tear up my dashboard to do it. I didn’t want to do that. My alternative was to purchase the Motorola T505 Bluetooth Speakerphone for $50 without tearing anything apart and I’m glad I chose that.
