Rants on “Street Fighter (the movie): Legend of Chun-Li”

Street Fighter from Capcom are coming out with two big release this year for their 20th anniversary in the making. One is the game sequel Street Fighter IV (4) as well as the movie Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li. After hearing it on the radio, I had to check out the trailer (trailer video below.) From what I saw in the trailer, this Street Fighter movie is up in the air. Many die-hard fans from what I read in the blogs are already calling it a disaster. Many SF (Street Fighter) fans/gamers said: the director, story plot, and casting are going to kill the movie itself.

Director – Writer:

The director of this movie will be Andrzej Bartkowiak, he directed the following movies: Doom, Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, & Cradle 2 the Grave. If you seen these movies, I guess why the SF fans are a bit disappointed. The screen writer for the “Legend of Chun-Li” is Justin Marks. This will be his first big screen write up for Hollywood. He has done a quite a few movies in the past and hopefully he bring his “A” game for this one.

Plot:

As for the story plot, this SF movie will be about Chun-Li. Chun-Li, in quest, is fighting with the enemy andbig boss of all time M. Bison. True SF gamers/fan know that Chun-Li is not the main character in SF franchise, and all-in-all it’s Ken and Ryu that are the big players. Ken and Ryu will not be appearing in this movie, but sequels of SF is already in play. -So fans, maybe in the next sequel there will be Ken and Ryu. There will also be other characters revealed throughout the movies. They stated that there are too many characters in the SF franchise to be revealed in one single movies. It’s just hard to throw in everyone and make a story line with the movie. From the trailer and research, it seems the movie takes place in our 2oth century. That’s why many of the characters won’t be there their authentic outfits. Justin Marks wanted to be a more of a realistic movie. Kinda sad, because who wouldn’t want to see everyone all suited up and ready to fight.

Cast / Characters:

Sexy Kristin Kreuk will be playing the lead role as Chun-Li. She is known as Lana Lang, in “Smallville.” This will be a big all time role for her, because Chun-Li is a fighter. If Kristin can pull off Chun-Li, then she could play any role in Hollywood. There a big fuss about her being Chun-Li. Many believe she does fit the role, because doens’t have the Chun-Li look and fighting moves. FYI she does have a purple belt in Karate, so bring it on Kristin. Others love that fact she will be playing the Chun-Li, because she is just so damn hot and sexy. I would to agree with many of the SF fan that they weren’t limited in picking Chun-Li. Maggie Q, Lucy Liu, and Zhang Ziyi would also have been a good fit for Chun-Li since they can really fight.

As for the big boss M. Bison, Neal McDonough, will be playing his role. One the sad things I have to say, you will not see bison in his O.G. red suit. Let’s see what Neal McDonough will bring into the big scene. I believe this will bring a out something we haven’t seen in Neal McDonough previous roles.

Next cast up, I must say is a good choice, is Michael Clarke-Duncan as Balrog. We’ve seen Michael Duncan in Sin City and many other ass-kicking movies. Duncan has the Balrog in him and I can’t wait to see him in this movie. This is gonna be another big bad-ass role for him.

There is alot a big hype with Taboo playing as Vega. The SF fan doesn’t know besides the fact him being in the Black Eyed Peas and other roles in movies, that he know martial arts. Let see him bring out some his Jeet Kune Do moves in the movie.

Tek Thoughts: As many of the casting are seen, there will be many hotties and bad-ass bad-boys in this cinema. Many of them who does not seem to hit the role will have to bring out their true acting skills. I believe one of the main reason they picked Kristin Kreuk is the fact she is hot and well known in entertainment industry. Many Kreuk fans, but not Street Fighter, will want to see this movie because Kreuk is in it. I’m not a die hard fan but am a fan of Street Fighter, so they already have me sold in seeing the movies in the theaters. Good or bad I’m excited and can’t for it to be released. Oh yea…, theatre release date is February 27, 2009.

I remember when I was around 12 years old and saw the first Street Fighter movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme playing as Guile. When we watch it now it’s a big cheesy movie, but back then, it was just so cool seeing all the fighters come to life. Now that’s it is the 20th century, we have high expectations in the movies industry.

Here a small clip from the old school Street Fighter movie back in 1994.

Stay in toon for the movie review.

awesome. I didn’t like the first movie. The street fighter game for xbox & ps3 looks crazy. Who will play Ryu? I really can’t wait to see it!

I know when you think of Street Fighter, Ken and Ryu pops up. Unfortunely, Ken and Ryu will not be starring in this movie. Can’t wait for the game to come out as well.

you know the only things that i see that disappoint in the casting and movie info so far is :
    1) Vega is a Blond Haired blue eyed spanish man who is very beautiful and even more vain. Taboo seems fine but come on guys we couldn’t find anyone more physically alike
    2) Where are Ken and Ryu? They are the two biggest characters and they have close ties to Chyun Li.
    4) Where is fei long? he too is tied to Chyun Li.
5)And I love the old Bison Shadow Law commander uniform, Where is that in the trailor?
Irregardless, I am still anitcipating this movie, I have been a Street Fighter fan since i first played the Street Fighter 2 Arcade game at 4 yrs old. This movie is a serious redeemer of the heavily disappointing Street Fighter 2 movie staring Jean Claude Van Damme

Dude, this movie sucks, ALOT. Ask any SF fans out there and 100% of the feedback for this movie really blows.
The cast do not fit their roles. The acting was unbareable. Hollywood should only make movie according to people’s demand and that is to include two of the MOST Important characters on there, RYU and Ken. Without them, no one would play SF. And yes they could have made a story revolving around RYU and plus the tournament. directors don’t even play the game and and know the story behind it, know their characters and wants to make a movie of “What they think SF is about.” Do the damn research before you write a research paper.
This movie is a disaster like the one before it with VAN Damm didn’t you people learn from your mistakes?
I would also like to add that the Dragon ball: Evolution movie is embarassing to all the fans as well.

If you can’t make a good film, don’t make it!
