GM OnStar for non GM Vehicles?

Have you ever seen those GM OnStar commercials on TV and wish you could have those nice services and features but can’t because you don’t own a GM vehicle? Well, General Motors recently unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) an aftermarket device that works just like the OnStar system for almost every car on the road. The device is a high-tech replacement rearview mirror that provides the most popular services and features like automatic crash detection, stolen vehicle tracking, hands-free calling and turn-by-turn directions. However, you won’t be able to start or unlock your vehicle remotely with this device. The new device will be available sometime this Spring and you can get them at BestBuy stores. It will set you back about $300.00 plus installation, monthly, or yearly OnStar service fees.

This could be one of the coolest car safety gadget ever. It’s a great move on GMs part but a drawback could be its costs, over $300.00 plus installation and the $200/yr or $12.00/month subscription fee. But, it does have a worthwhile purpose that can potentially save your life. Can you put a price on that?
