Here are a couple of things to look out for when you do a routine check up for your car.
Engine Oil and Filter: Should be checked after every fuel fill up and while the engine is off. Recomended oil changers are every 3 months or 3000 miles
Fuel Filter: Replace if it is contaminated with water or if there is too much debris restricting fuel flow. Recomended to be replaced every 2 years or 24000 miles
Transmission Fluid: Check fluid level when the engine is running and while in park or neutral. Recomended to be changed every 2 years or 24000 miles
Power Steering Fluid: Check the engine off using either "Full Cold" or "Full Hot" indicator lines on dipstick. Recomended to be changed every 2 years or 24000 fluid with miles
Brake Fluid : Check when engine is off or running. If you have to top off frequently, check brake linings and check for leaks. Recomended to be changed every 2 years or 24000 miles
These are only a couple of simple check ups you can do yourself once in a while to keep your car in top running condition. It is always better to catch even a minor problem before it becomes major and could cost you a large amount of money to get fixed or replaced.
